Sam joined the Chueh group in May 2017 after graduating from Utrecht university with a PhD in chemistry. He is a joint postdoc between the Chueh group and the Experimental Systems Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He works on understanding the multi-scale degradation phenomena of layered oxide cathode materials primarily using synchrotron-based X-ray spectromicroscopy techniques. Some of his current projects include (1) understanding the electrochemomechanical coupled degradation of layered oxide secondary particles using hard X-ray spectrotomography, (2) electrode-scale imaging using correlative x-ray coherent diffractive imaging combined with ultramicrotomy sample preparation. Outside of the lab, Sam enjoys eating.
